Welcome to Catholic Campus Ministry at NCSU
Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Friends of the Doggett Center,
I am so excited and honored to be a part of this important apostolate. God is going to do mighty things in us and through us as we "conspire" with the Holy Spirit to discern how to be faith-filled instruments in the vineyard of North Carolina State University and in the Diocese of Raleigh.
The mission here at the Doggett Center is to continue the good work of so many faithful ministers like Fr. Alex Gonzalez who have inspired and challenged students, parents, faculty, university staff, friends and neighbors. I look forward to serving all of you and collaborating with our Business Manager Christie Burley, our Peer Ministry Coordinator Teri Page Denault, our Leadership Team members, many volunteers and the capable staff at the Catholic Center.
The Doggett Center is the home of Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM) located very close to campus at 600 Bilyeu Street in Raleigh. It is located south of Western Boulevard and Pullen Park. There are Masses available on Sunday at 9 AM and at 7 PM at the Doggett Center. There is also a student led Mass at 11 AM at Witherspoon Theater. Starting on August 25th, we will have office hours (with an opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation) from noon until 1 PM in Witherspoon 201. We will also celebrate daily Mass on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays in the same room at 1:05 PM. Wednesday night Masses will continue to be at 6:30 PM at the Doggett Center. If there is a change in the schedule, there will be an announcement at the weekend Masses or notification in the bulletin. You can find more information at our website. There are two Holy Days of Obligation (look at them as "days of opportunity" to receive sacramental grace) this semester: on Tuesday, November 1st for All Saints Day and on Thursday, December 8th for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
Each and every one of the disciples of Jesus Christ is called to be a dispenser of the joy and mercy found in a committed relationship with the savior and redeemer of the world. As members of the Body of Christ, we cannot be complacent about the call to be receptive to the will of the Father and to bear fruit for the sake of the glory of God. The living out of the "obedience of faith" (Romans 1:5) will benefit those mature brothers and sisters who seek to deepen their relationship with God and will draw others to fall "head-over-heels" in love with Jesus.
We have many opportunities for the development of prayer life, fellowship and service to the community. Please keep the following important activities in mind as we begin another semester here at NC State: Pig Pickin', freshman retreat, beach trip, parents & family weekend, and the visit of Bishop Burbidge on October 19th. We will continue to offer classes (RCIA) for those not fully initiated into the Roman Catholic Church, Wednesday student nights, Bible studies, specialized groups for new students, graduate students, women, men and many activities to develop our hearts, minds, souls, relationships with neighbors and especially the poor.
My hope is that we can be a sign of the unconditional love of Christ for all God's children and that our testimony can reflect St. Paul's words: "...whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:17).
In the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus,
Fr. Tony DeCandia
