The Hispanic Family Center of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh is in need of tutors for school age children in grades K-12. Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary. Tutoring sessions are Tuesdays from 4pm to 5:30 pm at the Hispanic Family Center, which is located at 2013 N. Raleigh Blvd Raleigh, NC 27604. This Wednesday will be our first annual Grill-out and Talent Show. Come to Doggett to show off your talents and ability while enjoying a nice grilled burger or dog and enjoy a fun night of activities. If you are wondering what talent to bring, Rockband will be available but please sign up in the back with your team and your team name. Please also feel free to come to watch or bring your own special talent. There will be a panel of judges and a grand prize to the ones with the most 'talent.' Lent is the perfect time to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation! As Catholics, we are encouraged to go to Confession during Lent to prepare ourselves for Easter. Join Me on the Bridge! - March 7, 2010 International Women's Day marks its 99th anniversary on March 8, 2010. In honor of that day, women of Rwanda and the Republic of the Congo will bridge their two countries in a demonstration to show to the world their dream of peace, and to demand an end to violence, particularly against women and children. This event has inspired women around the globe to join their effort and stand united in the desire to build bridges of peace. We invited you to join in a local 'Bridge' event expressing solidarity with all women who want to end violence against women and children. When: Sunday March 7, 2010 anytime between 3:00 pm and 4:00pm; Where: 16 West Jones Street, Raleigh, North Carolina, Bridge is at the back of the Legislative Building; Notes: Wear something 'United Nations blue' and carry a white flag. Walk across 'the bridge' and have your photos taken with the bridge in the background.
Ignited by Truth - March 19-20, 2010 at the NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh The mission of Ignited By Truth is: Bringing to light the truth of the teachings of the Catholic Church and igniting in our hearts a love for our Faith. Our program begins with a free Friday evening workshop devoted to people considering the Catholic Church. Saturday is a full day of talks, addressing our mission in all areas of life: Faith in Action, Conversion, Scripture, Prayer, Theology, the Sacraments, Philosophy, Holiness, Apologetics, Vocations, the Sanctity of Life, and Evangelization. This year, we are adding a free college student breakout on Friday evening at 7pm. Bread for the World - June 12-15, 2010 in Washington, D.C. Bread for the World (who partners with JustFaith Ministries in offering the JustFaith program to the wider Christian community) is looking for the best and brightest 20- to 30-year-old advocates to join their next class of Hunger Justice Leaders. Selected participants will attend an advocacy training workshop—all expenses paid—in Washington, D.C., June 12-15, 2010. During this year’s training, participants will: Explore the Biblical foundations of faith and justice; Gain skills in advocacy, team-building, and community organizing; Connect with like-minded young leaders from across the United States; Speak out on Capitol Hill by visiting their members of Congress. These young leaders will use what they learn to engage their churches, campuses, and communities in advocacy to end hunger with Bread for the World.
